arm
Elbow's home territory
The appendage that begins at your shoulder and ends at your hand inspires the many uses of the word arm.
Animals whose uppermost or foremost limbs are distinct also have arms.
A limb that does not typically touch with the ground is also an arm, which may be why invertebrates such as squid and octopi have arms but spiders and insects have legs.
Figuratively speaking, an arm is one of multiple divisions of an organization: the retail arm of the corporation.
Arm is commonly a shortened version of firearm, and so arms can refer to weapons.
When someone is armed, they are carrying a weapon.
