finial

Spire's decorative cap

A finial is a decorative element at the top or end of something—the ornament crowning a lamp, bedpost, flagpole, or architectural spire.

Finials often take distinctive shapes: a pinecone, a fleur-de-lis, a ball, a pointed spike.

The term applies wherever a vertical structure needs a finishing touch at its peak: The brass finials on the curtain rod had tarnished.
