robot
Programmable metal laborer
A robot is a machine that performs tasks automatically, often ones that would otherwise require human effort.
Robots range from industrial arms assembling cars to humanoid figures in science fiction.
The word comes from Czech for forced labor.
Figuratively, someone acting mechanically or without independent thought is called a robot: He moved through his morning routine like a robot.
