ear
Corn's seed spike
Any part of the organ of hearing, from the innermost to the outermost part, can be called the ear; context usually reveals which particular part or parts is meant.
When an adjective that characterizes shape or size precedes ear (pointy/floppy/rounded/huge), the reference is to the visible parts of the ear, as opposed to the “hearing” parts.
Ear has figurative use with reference to hearing, listening, and understanding: He has the ear of the President, lend me your ears, in one ear and out the other.
