trunk
Elephant's long nose
A trunk is the main stem of a tree, the thick central column from which branches grow.
The meaning extends to other central structures: the trunk of the human body is the torso, excluding head and limbs.
A trunk is also a large rigid container for storage or travel, and in American English, the rear storage compartment of a car.
An elephant's trunk is its long prehensile nose.
Trunks are loose shorts worn for swimming or boxing.
