appendage

Arm or leg

An appendage is something attached to a larger or more important thing.

The term applies to body parts that project from the trunk—arms, legs, tails, antennae: The creature's appendages flailed in the water.

It extends to anything subsidiary or supplementary: The garage was a later appendage to the house.

Calling something an appendage often implies it's secondary or dispensable.
