servo

Feedback-controlled motor

A servo is a small motor that moves to a precise position when given an electrical signal, used extensively in robotics, radio-controlled vehicles, and automated systems.

The name comes from servomechanism—a device that uses feedback to correct its own performance.

A servo in a model airplane controls the ailerons; industrial servos position robotic arms with exact accuracy.

The servo burned out and the steering stopped responding.
