tail

Follows a suspect

A tail is a projecting body part at the rear of a mammal, reptile, or bird.

The meaning is extended to things that look like this (ponytail, tail of an airplane), or things that are in the rear: Join the tail of the line.

The reverse side of a coin is called tails.

To tail someone is to follow them, especially secretively.

If you turn tail, you run away from danger or a threat, usually out of fear.

If traffic tails or tails back, it forms a long, slow line.

To tail off is to diminish.
