inlet

Water reaching landward

An inlet is a narrow body of water extending into land from a larger body—a small bay, cove, or arm of the sea: The boat anchored in a sheltered inlet.

More generally, an inlet is any opening that admits entry, especially for liquids or gases: an air inlet, a water inlet.

The opposite is outlet.
