tailgate

Rear vehicle hatch

A tailgate is the hinged rear door of a truck bed or hatchback that swings down for loading.

To tailgate is to drive dangerously close behind another vehicle: Stop tailgating me!

In American usage, tailgating also means partying in a parking lot before a sporting event, often with food and drinks served from an open tailgate: We got there early to tailgate before the game.
