tract

Stretch of territory

A tract is a stretch or expanse of something—typically land: a tract of forest, the digestive tract.

The word emphasizes extent and continuity.

A tract is also a short pamphlet promoting a religious or political position, distributed to persuade: handing out tracts on the street corner.

These two meanings derive from different origins.
