branches
Subdivisions of organizations
Branches are limbs extending from a tree trunk or main stem.
The word extends to anything that divides from a main body: a river branch, a branch of government, a bank branch, a branch of study.
To branch is to divide or spread outward: The road branches ahead.
To branch out is to expand into new areas: The company branched out into software.
