trunking

Wiring enclosure system

Trunking refers to the use of shared communication channels among multiple users or signals.

In telecommunications, trunking allows many users to share a limited number of lines or frequencies, with connections allocated as needed rather than dedicated to each user.

In electrical work, trunking is a system of enclosed channels or conduits that house and protect wiring: The cables run through metal trunking along the ceiling.

The term also applies to network configurations where multiple data links are bundled together to increase capacity.
