woods
Where hikers wander
Woods is a forested area, smaller or less wild than a forest proper: a walk in the woods, lost in the woods.
The plural form is standard even for a single tract.
To be out of the woods is to have passed through danger or difficulty.
Woods also refers to wooden golf clubs, now typically made of metal but retaining the name: She hit a three wood off the fairway. (Capitalized Woods is a surname.)
