hardware

Metal goods and fittings

There are two main meanings of hardware.

The older one concerns durable parts and equipment used in making and repairing things: I bought hardware for the cupboards at the hardware store.

The newer meaning expresses the fixed parts of computers that are physical and not modifiable by programming.
