Military storage trunk
A footlocker is a sturdy rectangular trunk, typically placed at the foot of a bed, used for storing personal belongings.
The term is most associated with military barracks, where each soldier keeps uniforms, gear, and personal items in a standard-issue footlocker: He stowed his letters in his footlocker.
Summer camps and boarding schools use them similarly.
