obliques
Diagonal abdominal muscles
Obliques are the muscles running diagonally along the sides of the abdomen, responsible for twisting and bending the torso: Side planks really work your obliques.
The term comes from their slanting orientation—oblique means angled rather than straight.
In typography, obliques are slanted letterforms similar to italics but without the cursive design adjustments.
