wood
Carpenter's raw material
Wood is the hard, fibrous matter found under the bark of trees and that composes most of their bulk.
In this use, it is uncountable.
As a count noun and also as a plural, wood or woods designates a growth of trees larger than a copse or grove but usually smaller than a forest: lost in the woods.
Different objects fashioned from wood use the same name, such as a golf club or a wooden wind instrument.
Before another noun, wood means using it (a wood stove) or made of it (wood flooring).
The verb wood has little active use and appears mainly as the participle wooded, meaning covered in trees.
