Celts
Pre-Roman European peoples
The Celts were ancient peoples who inhabited much of western and central Europe before Roman expansion, and whose descendants settled in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, and Brittany.
The term now refers to people of Celtic heritage or those who speak Celtic languages like Irish, Welsh, or Scottish Gaelic.
Celtic culture, art, and mythology remain influential: The Celts left behind intricate metalwork and stone carvings. (Lowercase celts are prehistoric tools.)
