Goths

The Goths were Germanic tribes who played a major role in the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

They divided into Visigoths (western Goths) and Ostrogoths (eastern Goths), establishing kingdoms across Europe in the 5th and 6th centuries.

The term Gothic later described medieval architecture and literature with dark, mysterious qualities—a lineage that eventually gave rise to the modern goth subculture. (Lowercase goths are members of the modern subculture.)
