Ostrogoths

Italian peninsula conquerors

The Ostrogoths were an eastern branch of the Gothic peoples who established a kingdom in Italy after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

Under Theodoric the Great in the late fifth century, they ruled from Ravenna until their defeat by Byzantine forces in the sixth century.

The Ostrogoths preserved much of Roman administrative structure during their brief reign.
