Gauls

Pre-Roman Western Europeans

Gauls were the Celtic peoples who inhabited Gaul—the region roughly corresponding to modern France, Belgium, and parts of neighboring territories—before and during Roman conquest.

The term appears most often in historical contexts, particularly discussions of Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars: The Gauls resisted Roman expansion for decades.

A Gaul is an individual member of these peoples.
