Galicians

Celtic-influenced Spanish group

Galicians are people from Galicia, a region that can refer to two distinct places: the autonomous community in northwestern Spain, or the historical region in central Europe now divided between Poland and Ukraine.

Spanish Galicians speak Galician, a Romance language closely related to Portuguese, and have a Celtic-influenced cultural heritage.

Central European Galicians historically included Poles, Ukrainians, and Jews from the former Austro-Hungarian territory.

Many Galicians emigrated to Latin America in the early twentieth century.
