Vikings

Longship seafaring warriors

Vikings were Scandinavian seafarers who raided, traded, and settled across Europe from the late 8th to early 11th century.

The term evokes images of Norse warriors in longships attacking coastal settlements, though Vikings were also explorers and merchants who reached North America and the Byzantine Empire.

In modern use, Viking often describes anything boldly adventurous or associated with Norse culture: Viking spirit, Viking funeral.
