prophecy

Oracle's spoken future

A prophecy is a prediction of future events, especially one believed to come from divine inspiration or supernatural insight.

Religious texts contain prophecies about the end times; fortune tellers offer prophecies to paying customers.

More loosely, any confident prediction can be called a prophecy: Her prophecy about the company's failure proved accurate.

The verb form is prophesy (with an s): to prophesy is to make prophecies.
