Iron Age

After bronze, before

The Iron Age is the period of human history when iron became the dominant material for tools and weapons, following the Bronze Age.

In Europe and the Near East, this began around 1200 BCE.

More broadly, iron age describes any society's transition to iron technology.

Figuratively, an iron age suggests a harsh or degraded era, from the ancient Greek myth of declining ages from gold to iron.
