La Tène

Pre-Roman European culture

La Tène designates an Iron Age Celtic culture that flourished across much of Europe from around 450 BCE until Roman conquest.

Named for an archaeological site in Switzerland, the term appears in discussions of ancient European art, metalwork, and society: La Tène swords, La Tène period.

The style is known for flowing curvilinear designs distinct from the earlier Hallstatt culture.
