Ancient North Africans

Carthaginians were the people of Carthage, an ancient city-state in North Africa (modern Tunisia) that dominated Mediterranean trade and clashed with Rome in the Punic Wars.

The term appears most often in historical contexts: Hannibal led the Carthaginians across the Alps.
