diaspora
Dispersed cultural community
Diaspora was originally applied to the exile of Jews from Judaea in Biblical times.
Today, diaspora refers to Jews living around the world outside of Israel, but it can also be used of any other ethnic or national group that lives outside the place of its origin.
Some of the most common uses of diaspora today are in compounds such as African diaspora and Indian diaspora, the latter with reference to Indians who live outside of India, especially in the West.
