pirate

Plunders ships illegally

A pirate is someone who robs ships at sea.

The term extends to anyone who takes what isn't theirs to take: software pirates copy programs illegally, pirate radio stations broadcast without licenses.

To pirate something is to copy or use it without authorization: They pirated the movie before it hit theaters.

A pirated version is an unauthorized copy.
