Peter Pan

Never grows older

Peter Pan is the boy who never grows up, the central character in J.

M.

Barrie's 1904 play and subsequent works.

He lives in Neverland, fights Captain Hook, and befriends the Darling children.

The name has become shorthand for an adult, usually male, who avoids the responsibilities of maturity: He's a total Peter Pan—still living in his parents' basement at forty.

Peter Pan syndrome describes this pattern of prolonged adolescence, though it's not a clinical diagnosis.
