freebooter
Plundering ship marauder
A freebooter is a pirate or plunderer—someone who roves in search of loot without allegiance to any nation.
The term comes from Dutch words meaning "free" and "booty." Historically applied to Caribbean buccaneers and privateers, it now serves as a slightly literary or archaic synonym for pirate: The freebooters raided coastal settlements at will.
