galleon
Spanish Armada vessel
A galleon is a large sailing ship used from the 15th to 18th centuries, especially by Spanish and Portuguese fleets.
Galleons were built for warfare and cargo transport, with multiple decks and distinctive high forecastles and sterncastles.
They carried treasure from the Americas and became iconic targets for pirates: The Spanish galleon was laden with gold.
