marooned

Left without rescue

Marooned means stranded in an isolated place with no way to leave.

The word originally described the punishment of abandoning someone on a deserted island: The mutineers marooned their captain on a rocky shore.

Now it applies to anyone stuck somewhere involuntarily: We were marooned at the airport for twelve hours, marooned in a small town with no car.
