corsairs
Mediterranean pirate ships
Corsairs are pirates or privateers, especially those who operated in the Mediterranean.
The word carries a slightly romantic or historical flavor compared to plain pirate: Barbary corsairs raided European coastal towns for slaves.
Corsair can also refer to the fast ships these raiders sailed.
