hull
Vessel's outer shell
A hull is the outer covering of a seed or fruit, especially the leafy cap on a strawberry or the husk of a grain.
To hull strawberries is to remove those caps.
Hull also names the main body of a ship—the watertight shell that sits in the water, distinct from masts, rigging, or superstructure: The hull was breached below the waterline.
By extension, aircraft fuselages and tank bodies are sometimes called hulls. (Capitalized Hull is a city in England.)
