mage
Arcane arts practitioner
A mage is a magician or wizard—someone who practices magic.
The word appears almost exclusively in fantasy fiction and gaming, where it typically denotes a character class specializing in spells rather than physical combat: The mage cast a fireball at the approaching orcs.
Outside these contexts, mage sounds archaic or affected.
