Captain's steering post
A helm is the steering apparatus of a ship—the wheel or tiller that controls direction.
By extension, helm refers to a position of control or leadership: She took the helm of the company during a difficult period.
To helm is to steer or lead: He helmed the project from start to finish.
Separately, helm is an archaic or literary word for helmet.
