hook hand
Curved metal appendage
A hook hand is a prosthetic device consisting of a curved metal hook attached to the arm, replacing a missing hand.
The design allows basic gripping function.
Hook hands appear frequently in pirate imagery and fiction, where they signal a weathered, dangerous character: The captain's hook hand gleamed in the lamplight.
The term also describes anyone fitted with such a prosthesis.
