buccaneer
Caribbean ship plunderer
A buccaneer is a pirate, specifically one of the sea raiders who preyed on Spanish ships and settlements in the Caribbean during the 17th century.
The term now applies broadly to any pirate or, figuratively, to someone who operates with bold disregard for rules: corporate buccaneers, a buccaneering approach to business.
The verb buccaneer means to act as a pirate or to pursue something aggressively and unscrupulously.
