kern
Typographic character spacing
Kern is a typographical term for adjusting the space between individual letter pairs.
Some combinations—AV, To, WA—look awkward with standard spacing, so designers kern them closer together.
As a verb: The logo looks off because no one kerned the letters properly.
Good kerning is invisible; bad kerning makes text feel slightly wrong.
