OpenType

Modern font standard

OpenType is a font format developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe, now the standard for digital typography.

OpenType fonts work across operating systems and can contain thousands of characters, including ligatures, small caps, and alternate letterforms.

The format supports both outline types used in earlier formats—TrueType and PostScript—unified under one file extension.
