track
Path for trains
The main idea of track is linear, with reference to a path or progress through time or space.
Something that moves through space may leave a track or tracks, or it may follow tracks, as a train does.
If you keep track of it, you notice where it is or what it is doing in various stages.
If you fail in that, you lose track.
Something that is on track is proceeding according to expectations.
In recording, track may refer to an individual song (a CD with bonus tracks), or to one of several layers of the recording combined with others to compose a whole work (the bass track). #
