value
What something merits
Value is what something is worth, expressed either in numbers or in something of comparable worth: Does a college education have value equal to its cost?
In math, value is a magnitude or quantity that can be represented by a number.
In the plural, values refers to the beliefs and views that a person or group holds about what is right and wrong.
The verb value can mean place a value on, but more often it means to regard or esteem highly: I really value the time I had with my grandparents.
