Elizabeth I
Tudor era's end
Elizabeth I was queen of England and Ireland from 1558 to 1603, the last Tudor monarch.
Her reign, called the Elizabethan era, saw English expansion, the defeat of the Spanish Armada, and a flourishing of literature and drama—Shakespeare's career unfolded under her rule.
She never married, earning the epithet "the Virgin Queen."
