kerning
Letter gap adjustment
Kerning is the adjustment of space between individual letters in typeset text.
Certain letter pairs—like A and V, or T and o—create awkward gaps when spaced uniformly, so kerning tightens or loosens the spacing for visual balance.
The designer adjusted the kerning to make the headline look less gappy.
Poor kerning can make text difficult to read or accidentally spell something unintended.
