wheat kernel
Flour's raw material
A wheat kernel is the edible seed of the wheat plant, consisting of three parts: the outer bran layer, the starchy endosperm, and the germ.
Whole wheat products use all three components, while refined flour uses only the endosperm.
Also called a wheat berry, especially when sold whole for cooking.
