x-height
Small letter span
X-height is a typographic measurement: the height of lowercase letters like x, a, or e that have no ascenders or descenders.
It determines how large a font appears at a given point size—two fonts at 12 points can look quite different if one has a taller x-height.
Typefaces with generous x-heights tend to be more readable at small sizes.
