indentation
Text's left margin
Indentation is a space or notch set back from a margin or edge.
In writing, indentation marks the beginning of a paragraph by setting the first line inward: The essay used half-inch indentations.
In computing, indentation organizes code into visual hierarchies.
The word also applies to physical notches or recesses: The coastline was marked by deep indentations.
