intertidal
Shore zone habitat
Intertidal describes the coastal zone between high and low tide marks—the area alternately submerged and exposed as tides rise and fall.
Intertidal ecosystems host organisms adapted to this fluctuating environment: We explored the intertidal zone, finding sea stars and anemones in the tide pools.
The term appears primarily in marine biology and ecology.
